Hyperfocal Distance

Explanation of hyperfocal distance created as a support of landscape photography tips article. In the article explained how to get sharp photos in landscape photographs by applying technical hyperfocal focus point Distance to put in the right position to get the focal plane that the broadest possible so it will be sharply distinguished from the front / foreground to the background.

Knowledge of the distance hiperfokal be useful when we want to take a photograph where there are elements (or objects) in the image which is very close from our lens. For example, a rock or the ground or any object that comes into the frame which is so close, just a matter of distance of tens of centimeters, or even closer, and we really want is a sharp object.

By knowing the distance hiperfokal, we can know where we put the camera + lens and where to mem-focus-it, with the belief that from the point of focus will be sharp up to infiniti. Plus do not forget that half the distance to the next bonus will also be sharp.

Definition hyperfocal Distance

The meaning or definition of hyperfocal Distance is the distance from the lens to the focal point, where the focal point up to infinity (infinity) is sharp all. By using technical hiperfokal distance, we also get a bonus half of the focal point / hiperfokal is also sharply towards the lens, or commonly referred to as photography: accpetabel sharpness.

In other words, if the technical hyperfocal distance using the distance from the lens to the point that from that point forward will be sharp when the lens difocuskan at the point of infinity. Or from that point until the infiniti will be sharp.

How to Calculate hyperfocal Distance

Tips calculate the distance hiperfokal a lens can use a formula that tricky. Hyperfocal Distance determined by focal length (lens length) and apperture (aperture).

Currently, besides using the formula, how to calculate the hyperfocal distance can use the application. By using hyperfocal distance calculator software we can easily obtain the distance table hiperfokal a lens at a particular focal length and apperture.

As a reference hiperfokal seek distance, all with a long lens aperture lens and the same although different brand will have the same hiperfocal distance. One factor that affects the distance hiperfokal a lens is of the type / kind of camera, or rather the field sensor or the film where the light falls.

So a 35mm film camera or a digital camera full frame (35mm) will have different distances hiperfokal with digital cameras with a crop factor. Similarly, when compared with medium format cameras or even large format / field camera though.

Program To Calculate Hyperfocal Distance

  • Master DOF Calculator, Countdown hyperfocal Distance http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html
  • Counters hyperfocal Distance for iOS / iPhone / iPod http://www.dofmaster.com/iphone.html
  • Counters hyperfocal Distance to Android OS http://www.dofmaster.com/android.html

Hyperfocal distance technique is especially needed when we use the foreground within the "extreme" close to the lens. If the distance is far enough away from the lens, the technique is no longer relevant.
